Performance Art Platform
The Performance Art Platform founded by the Shelter 209 Foundation in memory of Dan Zakhem for the Advancement of Interdisciplinary Arts in Israel.
The Performance Art Platform Center for Performance Art in Israel was the dream of the late Dan Zakhem and other Shelter 209 founding artists. In 2001, it opened its doors at the Mercazim House after 13 years of working out of the public bomb shelter no. 209 in Ramat Aviv. It was destroyed at the height of its activities by a large fire on June 24, 2003. The Performance Art Platform’s new home is in Tel Aviv’s new central bus station, where activities have been resumed.
• The Performance Art Platform is home for all performance artists in Israel. • We are committed to acting in a relevant manner and according to contemporary reality, especially in the area where we are active: Downtown Tel-Aviv, Israel, and the Middle East. • The Performance Art Platform puts on original productions and continues to exhibit the works of Tamar Raban, including She Has a Headache in the Stomach and Dinner Dress – Tales about Dora (at the time of the fire this work was at The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, and thus survived). These works were exhibited and produced in collaboration with the Viener Festwochen, Zuercher Theater Spektakel, Kampnagal - Hamburg, Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien - Berlin, Teatri di Vita - Bologna, Ex-Teresa Arte Actual -Mexico-City, FFT - Dusseldorf, "Politik-Um" The Center for Contemporary Art - Prague, NIPAF Festival - Japan, and more.
