Nona: A Video Project, or the Golden Years Clip Archive
The video features Nona, Ben Shirtrit's grandmother, recounting her bitter but non-committal story in a blend of Arabic, French and Hebrew which reflects her complex cultural identity. Ben-Shitrit himself is present at the videotaping session, but the ‘real time’ of his own actions cannot keep pace with the video-time of the compelling Nona; his live attempts to communicate with her consist of shouts in Hebrew, megaphone yells in Arabic, and French spoken through a microphone.
